In addition demand for qualified educators is on the rise, a trend which isn't likely to change in the near future. There are a wide range of career opportunities in this field, ranging from Preschool Teachers to College Professors, Physical Education Teachers, Administrators, Librarians, Special Education Teachers, and more. Additionally, workers in this industry may be employed in a variety of establishments, including colleges, public schools, training centers, and technical schools.[i]

What Kind of Degree Do I Need for A Career in Education?

Educational requirements for careers in education can vary by school district, position, as well as the type of school (Charter, Private, Public etc) and range anywhere from from a High School Diploma to a Master's degree.   • The top paying jobs within this industry are Postsecondary Teachers, specifically in the Law, Health Specialties, Engineering, and Economics areas. Other top paying jobs in this industry are Curator, Librarian, Instructional Coordinator, and Secondary School Special Education Teacher. [iii]

  • In 2014, the Education industry gained 960,000 jobs, compared to 792,000 in 2013.
  • The number of educational establishments in the private industry has steadily increased in recent years by about 10,000 from 2011 to 2014. The number of educational establishments in the local government declined by 300 from 2013 to 2014. In the state and federal government, the number of educational establishments rose from between 2013 and 2014.
